Passionist Life Remembering the life of Fr. Tim Cullen CP

Remembering the life of Fr. Tim Cullen CP

Aug 27 2019, 10:18 AM

Fr. Timothy Cullen CP.  Tim was born in 1933 and brought up in Liverpool and in Donegal. He took first vows as a Passionist in 1951, was ordained in 1957. Tim was one of the first few Passionists who moved into Minsteracres after the Silvertop Family sold the estate to the Congregation in 1949. Tim often recalled moving into the dilapidated building and gazing at the stars in the night sky through the rafters!

Tim spent most of his active ministry in Wales, working in Carmarthen and in St Nons. For a time he was national co-ordinator for the Young Christian Workers (YCW).

Tim spent the last part of his life in Highgate, north London, and the final couple of years in Nazareth House Care Home, East Finchley.

Tim shared his life-long love for Wales with all who knew him. We give thanks to God for Tim’s passion and ministry. In the words of Welsh poet Dylan Thomas we can say:

“And death shall have no dominion.
No more may gulls cry at their ears
Or waves break loud on the seashores;
Where blew a flower may a flower no more
Lift its head to the blows of the rain…”

And with St. Paul we can affirm:

“For we know that since Christ was raised from the dead, he cannot die again; death no longer has mastery over him.” (Romans 6:9).

He died peacefully on the vigil of The Assumption, 14th August 2019. St. David and St. Non, pray for Tim. May he rest in the Peace of Christ.
